Ownership and portability
User-Owned AI Memory That Can Move With You
A practical explanation of user-owned AI memory: explicit durable knowledge that remains inspectable, portable, and separately authorized.
“I want my files and useful AI memories to remain mine and work across multiple AI assistants.”
An everyday example
The family archive outlives the tool used to organize it
A genealogy hobbyist uses different assistants for handwriting transcription and family-story drafting. Confirmed names, dates, source notes, and images remain in her archive, so the family record is not trapped inside either AI account.
- 1
Make memory deliberate. Save only explicit, useful knowledge and attach the source when possible.
- 2
Keep history visible. Inspect who created it, when it was created, and what later superseded it.
- 3
Keep it portable. Export your data or authorize another compatible AI when your needs change.
Plain answers
What to know before connecting an AI
Who owns a DiskDrive Memory?
The durable copy lives in the user’s DiskDrive Space. Connected AIs are authorized clients; they do not become the owner of the archive.
Can I export or delete what is remembered?
Yes. DiskDrive provides export and account-deletion controls. Revoking an AI connection does not erase the user’s retained files and Memories.
